Carris Reels Grant

Thank-you Carris Reels

We have been given a generious grant by Carris Reels! This is the second year they have been so generous. The grant money will be used to help with special programs -- Music, Foreign Language, Art.

On our way to hike at Pine Hill students, teachers and parents stopped at Carris Reels to accept the "check" and give Carris Reels a special thanks.

Special thanks to Peggy Shinn, a former MVCS parent, board member and member of grant writing committee, for working on this grant again this year.

MVCS Elected Board

This year we have a lot of new members on the MVCS Board. It is exciting to have new faces and ideas coming to the Board and to our school this year. Here is your new Board:

Tonia Erickson was voted in as President. She has been the MVCS Board Treasure for the last 11 years. She is one of MVCS’s founding members and has been involved in MVCS on and off for the last 20 years.

Stacia Bullock was voted in as Vice President. She will be shadowing Tonia, learning the duties of Board President and filling in for me when needed. This is a new experience for Stacia and it was wonderful of her to step up to the plate.

Stephanie Cornell agreed to accept the nomination of Treasurer. It is a big step to take on the responsibility of an organization's finances and I really appreciate her doing this. Tonia will be working with Stephanie on a transition for the next 3 - 4 months.

Charlotte Gerstein agreed to be voted in as Secretary. Charlotte is a returning parent to MVCS. It is exciting to have Charlotte's experience and energy on the board.

George Ambrose is a past MVCS Board President with lots of school administration experience. George is a wonderful resource for the Board and its members.

Cathy Brown is a past MVCS teacher who has agreed to be appointed to the Board. Cathy will be a wonderful resource for the board. Cathy has agreed to be on the Administrative committee (Admin. for short) as the Board representative. This leads into the next topic of sub-committees.

We have six main committees with a Board member heading up five of them. The committees are:

Admin. Committee addresses the everyday operation of the school. Some examples of things this committee addresses are emergency evacuation plans, licensing, school activities, parent matters, teacher items plus much more. Cathy Brown will be the Board representative and will be the committee chair. This committee also includes our lead teacher (Christine Anderson), other teachers when they are able, a parent (Audra Fairbanks), our Registrar (Beryl Robare), the Board President or Vice President, and a member of the Finance committee. Tonia will be representing the last two committee positions for now. Sandy Gagnon who was our School Coordinator also attends these meetings.

The Finance committee will be chaired by Stephanie and its current members are George, Sandy and myself.

The Fund-raising committee will be chaired by Stacia. This committee oversees all the large and small fund-raisers that are essential to keeping our school financially stable. These fund-raising events support enrichment activities for the students, and allow us to have a scholarship fund. We are hoping that in addition to the parents who signed up to help with Fund-raising at our open house, additional MVCS parents will join Stacia on this vital committee.

The Grants committee will be chaired by Charlotte and, once more, we are hoping the all parents who signed up to help with Grants will actively participate on this committee and will be joined by additional interested parents.

The Marketing and PR committee will be headed up by George. This is a new committee that was not on our list of parent volunteer opportunities at our open house. George is looking for a group of volunteers who have an interest in or experience with Marketing or PR.

The Site committee will be chaired by Robert Cornell. Anyone with an interest or experience in site maintenance of any type, please let Robert know. Also please keep an eye out for notices of needs as they arise. We appreciate you helping out whenever you can.
